I know you may be not wanting to talk about Christmas yet but it is a fun time of the year and needs some planning to not go broke. Stores down here in Arizona are starting to get Christmas decorations out and we are still 73 days till the big day.
It is easy to get caught up with buying more decorations for the house, food, cards and gifts galore. But if you don’t have a plan or a budget watch out because you may have a lot of debt after the holiday is over.
In the past I was never the best at having a Christmas budget that was reasonable. We spent so much money over the top and then kept buying last minute gifts for others up to the day of Christmas. Not counting how much we used to spend on decorations and cards. January used to be a painful time when the credit card bills came in.
If you have kids you want to give them everything on their lists because you love them so much but how many of the gifts will they remember getting the following year? How many gifts will they still be playing with by February? Not many in our house.

But my dad saved a little bit of money on the side through the year and then never paid more money than they had in their checking account. Of course, credit cards were not big back in the days I was a kid. My parents gave us toys but also clothes that we could use from socks, shirts, sweat shirts to pants. Our boys don’t get excited over clothes. LOL
Some people say that a family with an income of $50,000 to $60,000 per year would have a Christmas Budget of $400 to $500 per year. Last year we spend $799 in just gifts not counting the decorations and food we bought we spent over $1,400 easily.
Some ways to hit your Christmas Budget could be and also what our Christmas budget is this year;
