Christmas is tomorrow and then we start a new year in just seven days. Are you looking forward to the holidays or are you feeling down? This time of Year, can be hard for people depending on what their situation is and what has happened in their world in the past.
For myself when I am watching Christmas and Holiday shows on TV it can get me down really easy in the past. Even today there is times that it can get me thinking of the past but now I have some ways to help me get to a better mood.
We all have past experiences that can affect us in a good way or a negative way depending on how we look at it. I know there was some Holidays in the past that wasn’t a lot of fun for me because I couldn’t get myself seeing the good things in my life. Two big events in my past was my Divorce and then when my Dad died.
Then I met Devin Hastings years ago and he taught me about the Mind and how to use a Positive Score Card. He taught me NLP and Hypnosis Classes for a few years. His classes where amazing and I learned a lot about the power of our Minds.
This last year has been challenging for everyone from the roller coaster of the stock market to uncertainty of jobs being around with the disruption of businesses. Some people had challenges on home schooling to finding day care for their kids when the schools went to home schooling.
I’m sure people around the world felt all sorts of feelings this year. I would bet that depression and anxiety rates are at a all time high. Friends of mine had different things that were bothering them about 2020 from having to wear a Mask to not being able to go to their favorite restaurant.
Depression and anxiety have been documented a lot about how it can affect your health and happiness. I am not a medical doctor but I know I feel a lot better when I am happy then sad. I have more energy and can think of productive ways improve my life.
I have two useful tools that helps me get out of my funk or pity party when I need to. I let my self vent quietly for about sixty seconds and then let it go. What we call it in golf is to have a short-term memory and let the past go. I like to remember the good things from the past and let the negative parts slip away unless they were good learning experiences.
Are you ready to be happier? Let’s find ways to show Gratitude and reframe our minds to be happier. Gratitude is showing thanks for what we have and what we receive. Expressing Gratitude to others is a great way to help others also be happier and feel better about themselves.
In the business world if you are an owner or manager of employees it is a key to express gratitude to your employees. Over the years I have talked to so many people that have left jobs because the lack of recognition at their jobs. If you own a business or a manager you know how hard it is to find good employees and to train employees. Turnover of employees is a very costly expense to a business. That is an area I worked on. I tried to keep our turnover as low as possible.
Let me share with you now some things I use to help me be grateful for my life and to be happier.
- I have a Positive Score Card that I carry around with me that lists all the things that I have achieved over the past or the things that I have over came in the past.
- I have another list that I carry of Positive Quotes and Bible Verses so I can read them anything I may be feeling upset over something that happened to me.
- I have stacks of Positive Books and my Bible in my Office so they are handy to pickup and read if I need a pickup.
- I try to not watch the news since it is so negative.
- Last is I keep a good circle of friends that are all pretty positive and I know I can call them and they will be a positive influence to talk with.
Again, my goal is to be happy and those are ways I use to get my self out of a down mood. Another benefit of being happier is that you can have stronger relationships with others.
Now let’s talk about ways we can show Gratitude to others so they will be happier. They may be going through a tough time or worried about something like money or health issues. There are many ways that you could express Gratitude to others and some don’t have to be a huge thing. It could be as small as acknowledging someone for a good job on a task they did. I just talked to someone today that was upset because they never hear anything from their boss. They did some big projects lately and no good job or thanks from their boss. Ughhh.
Here are some ways to show Gratitude to others;
- Say “Thank You”. Such a simple thing but so many people don’t seem to know those words. People like to feel appreciated. Even better express your feelings of Gratitude for what they did that was so helpful.
- Give out Thank You cards to people to show your Gratitude. A hand written note is so personal and a lost art in todays world. Maybe I am old school but I believe in them. I know it makes me feel good when someone takes the time to write me a Thank You card to show their Gratitude.
- If you want to save money on a Card and Stamp then pick up the phone and let people know how much you appreciate them. How Grateful you are that they are in your life.
It is such a good feeling to make someone’s day. If I had a ton of money, I would give out $100 bills to also show thanks. I had a boss in Iowa that every now and then he would come up to me and my buddy Mike and say “I appreciate everything you do, take out your wives for supper tonight” He would give us each a $100 bill. The money was nice but his words were even more special.
Before we wrap this up some other ways people show Gratitude is, they will pray or meditate. I have done both in the past but for me reading my Positive Score Card and Positive Quotes helps me the best.
