Lemonade Stand Motivation

Some people may have done odd jobs or had a small business as a kid. Myself I started going to my neighbors in the summer months and asking if I could mow their lawns. Then in the fall months I would go back to them and ask if I could rake their leaves. Then in the winter months I would go back and ask if I could shovel their sidewalks and driveways. Of course, those were times I lived in Iowa and not in Arizona where I currently do.

Money in your Pockets

The nice thing was that I always had money in my pockets. If was fun as a kid going to the local candy store and buying candy for myself and friends before school. Also, at night when I went to the bowling alley with my dad, I had money for the games they had them. Yes, I wasted a lot of money and if I knew then what I know now I would be swimming in money but we can’t go back in time. Now I hope I can make an impact on my kids and other people around the world.

Lemonade Stand Story

Think how a story can apply to your life or future dreams. A story of a kid who wanted to open a Lemonade stand. His dad said he had to buy his own cups and lemonade. He didn’t have any savings so he went to two of his friends and asked them to invest in it. They started up at a corner in the neighborhood just selling Lemonade. After the day was over, he would pay his two friends out of the profits and then pay himself what was left.

Business was slow so they started going door to door in the neighborhood. That got them more sales. But still we all have seen kids selling Lemonade on neighborhood corners. Well then, they started selling Cookies and Candy which helped sales.

Then they thought about moving the stand to other neighborhoods. So, they put wheels on it and moved it around. They started getting more sales. Then they could hit sporting events at parks, community events in the parks and even offer to work birthday parties at the parks. What a good business idea for kids.

But then his parents moved to another town. He saw how costly it was for his parents to buy moving boxes and to rent two wheelers for large items, blankets and other supplies. The lightbulb went off in his head and said why don’t I start a rental company for boxes and moving supplies.

He started at age 16 with boxes he bought and a two-wheeler. He used his own money he saved from the lemonade business to start the rental business. He did it out of his parents’ garage to keep his cost low and to build from there. What an entrepreneur.

Steps

What else could he be doing as a kid and running his business? Not knowing all the details of his situation maybe he could have done the following also;

  1. Made his business an LLC, S or C Corp with the help a Lawyer and Accountant.
  2. Register his business name, any patents and trade markets.
  3. Get Insurance for his business.
  4. Market the business with low cost ways like Social Media and knocking at doors.
  5. Stay debt free if possible.
  6. Don’t hire anyone unless you can pay yourself first and have enough money to pay them after that.
  7. Think of ways the business could be scaled up.
  8. Build a network of other entrepreneurs and a financial team.

Starting My Own Businesses

I like reading and hearing stories from retired people about how they started their own businesses or what they did to earn money during their working years. I feel I can learn something from everyone I meet. I also like helping others who have questions about something I can help them with.

Insanity Quote

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”. By Albert Einstein. I would also say the definition of insanity is believing you can live a financial responsible life without tracking how you are doing, having a budget and goals. I like following others who track their finances to compare our also. I enjoy helping people with their finances and goals.
