Some people when they hear needs they may think of Food, Water, Air and shelter. Others may think Money and a job. My boys would say Xbox and Internet Service. LOL All is correct depending on the person. But let’s talk about Tony Robbins 6 human needs.
Tony Robbins Podcast
I was listening to Tony’s Podcast the other day when I go on my morning walk. I like listening to his Podcast several times a week. He says there are 6 main human needs on his podcast and people have some that are more important to them than other ones. I listen to him when I am on my walks and try to take notes as I go so, I may hack it up some but I may be able to get a spark in you to think how it applies to your relationships and life.
6 Human Needs
- Certainty – security, comfort, be in control, safe and stable place to consistency.
- Uncertainty or Variety – surprise, excitement, adventure, spice of life to challenges.
- Significance – feel worth, special, sense of importance, pride.
- Love and Connection- by other humans through communication, approval to intimacy.
- Growth – learning and growing as a person.
- Contribution – helping others.
So, if you are in a relationship it is good to know what order of importance of the 6 human needs are to your partner. Especially if you are dating and not married yet. You want to make sure you can come close to what they need in the top 3 to 4 of their needs.
When we retire things can be a challenge also because we may lose one or more of our human needs because they may have been tied to our job or business. I can relate to that for sure. When I retired and moved to Arizona, I lost my significance that I had tied to my job. I missed being the go to person at work. The daily challenges and helping others with problems they had. Now instead of having 440 workers and 30,000 plus customers in a week I am only seeing my wife, two boys and a few friends a week. I don’t feel the significance that I had before and miss it at times. I try to get it through my businesses that I run from home but still not close to what I had.
Also, if could relate to a hobby or sport that we play and then later in life if our body changes and we aren’t able to perform at a level we used to be at then we could struggle if our top human need or needs was tied to that activity. Like I used to be a top bowler since I was a kid. I moved around a lot for my career but still managed to be a top bowler in every town until I got into my forties. I lost my Dad who we talked about bowling weekly over the phone. Then my knee and back started having issues. My scores were lower and I lost my feeling of being significance in bowling. I wasn’t able to have close to the fun I used to have so I decided to make a change to Golf and see if I could get it through Golf the feelings I had with bowling. Anyone who plays Golf knows it isn’t that easy to be a top golfer but most of us keep trying and learning new golf techniques. My wife would probably like me to go back to bowling since it was cheaper than golf is. LOL
I am a fan for over 30 years of Tony Robbins. I know I have talked about him in the past a lot but he is good. Some people don’t like his language or energy level but I look at how good of communicator he is with his words and actions. I would suggest you look into go to one of his seminars or watch his free stuff on You Tube. Also check out his website also. He is good. I always feel inspired after listening to him. Who couldn’t use more Inspiration?
So how are you doing with your needs. Try listing out your needs on paper. Then as you look it over ask your self if you need to change something in your life to be more in line with your needs.
