Darlene and myself was talking about how many gifts do we really remember from our pasts. Especially most people don’t remember anything before age 6 because our Brains aren’t fully developed yet. We talked about even if we could remember what we got 10 years ago. Also, what gifts have we got in the past that we even use today.
I see these young parents with little kids going way over board on gifts and parties for the kids. Will the kids ever really remember it in the future? I bet they will remember if their parents go broke or file Bankruptcy.
My parents were awesome but I don’t have anything still that I ever got from them. They were poor but loved to give gifts. My Mom would go overboard also on Hallmark Greeting Cards that cost way too much money. When the kids open cards, they are just hoping that cash is in it and don’t really read or remember the card in a year from now. Of course, if they had $100 bill in it, they may remember it for a few months.
My best gifts that I remember was from my Mom’s Dad. Grampa would normally give me some cash. Cash was always appreciated. I used it of course.
My Mom would give me a Sweat Shirt with a Dog on the front of it or a tie each Birthday or Christmas until my dad passed away. I only wore it they came and visited me. They only traveled to see us about five times in 20 years that I was moving around for work.
My parents wasted so much money on useless gifts and cards over the years. I would have been happier today if that money would have been put in Investments for themselves. They lived pretty much paycheck to paycheck.
With our kids the older they get the more expensive gifts they want. When they were young, they were happy with a $5 Lego kit or a Hot Wheel car. Now the minimum cost of things they want is about $60.
We have asked our kids what gifts they remembered from 10 years ago and what ones they still use. They can maybe remember a few but none that they still have or use.

Welcome back. Now let’s talk more about Christmas Gifts.
Let’s talk about some Christmas Gifts that could last them a life time and that they may remember 1, 5, 10 years from now.
- Of course, I would have to say a book called “Money Secrets to Make You Rich” by Bruce Mills. I am partial to that book. It is on Amazon.com and so are a lot of other great books that could help them live a Financial Free life.
- Stocks in a company. Maybe set them up a Brokerage Account with them and buy them stocks in a good company you have researched and feel will be in business 10 years from now. Let them be part of the process.
- Collector Coins are always fun and can create memories. Tell them about how Collector Coins work and how to protect them for the future.
- Buy some Digital Coins in their name. Teach them about Digital Crypto and how to buy more in the future if they like.
- Buy them Bonds.
- Buy Gold or Silver bars.
- Buy them another Investment that you see going up in value in the future and they will remember who gave it to them 10 years from now.
Some of these things can depend on their age. You could still buy Stocks or other Investments in their name if they are young and teach them about it when they are older. Investments are better than some Toy or Sweater that they won’t remember 5 to 10 years from now.
We want to give our gifts of education and Investments that can help them in the future. If we do ever buy other items we stay with in a budget and know that it is just for fun and not a worth while gift. We save money buy getting 50 cent cards at the dollar store. After the Nieces and Nephews hit age 18, we quit buying gifts for them. If we do get them a gift it will be an educational book.
Some of the authors we like is Tony Robbins, Joel Osteen, Dale Carnegie, Wayne Dyer, Robert Kiyosaki and Bruce Mills. We get self help books to Financial Education books.
If you need more help, I can help with my Coaching service. I just want to help people have less stress about their Financial Future or their Retirement plans and spend more time enjoying life.
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”. By Albert Einstein. I would also say the definition of insanity is believing you can live a financial responsible life without tracking how you are doing, having a budget and goals. I like following others who track their finances to compare our also. I enjoy helping people with their finances and goals.
We want to give our boys the best chance to have their money last them thru their retirement years and have them reach their Financial Freedom goals. They need to live somewhat with a frugal mindset and spend less than they make so they can Invest towards their Financial Freedom goals. The boys will need to maybe put off Net Flix or buying a New Video game or going to the movies until they are on the path to Financial Freedom.
Here are some positive quotes I like;
“Get your Money to Work for You… As hard as You Work for it.” By Napoleon Hill
“1. Make Money. 2. Use the Money to Make More Money. 3. Repeat the Process.” By Warren Buffett
“There is no way to happiness; happiness is the Path.” By Buddha
“Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life” by Wayne W. Dyer
